Frankfurt nad Mohanem: Národní galerie v Praze vlastní poklad florentského umění (MANIERA: Pontormo, Bronzino and Medici Florence)

Städelovo muzeum ve Frankfurtu nad Mohanem nabízí až do 5. června výstavu Maniera věnovanou manýristickému malířství ve Florencii 16. století za vlády Medicejů. Manýrismus byl významným stylovým obdobím mezi vrcholnou renesancí a barokem. Jeho představitelé si potrpěli na nejrůznější výtvarné kuriozity a výstřelky, takže manýristické umění se v mnohém podobá soudobému postmodernismu.

Hlavními osobnostmi ve Städelově muzeu jsou malíři Jacopo da Pontormo, Giorgio Vasari, Andrea del Sarto, Rosso Fiorentino a Agnolo Bronzino. Zápůjčkami obrazů se na výstavě podílejí slavná muzea Evropy a Ameriky, včetně pařížského Louvre, Národní galerie ve Washingtonu a Metropolitního muzea v New Yorku.

V konkurenci uměleckých pokladů dominují dvě díla Agnola Bronzina, dvorního umělce medicejského vévody Cosima I. Prvním je portrét Dámy v červeném oděvu ze Städelova muzea a druhým portrét Eleonory z Toleda, Cosimovy manželky, který byl zapůjčen z pražské Národní galerie.

Eleonora z Toleda pocházela ze Španělska a byla dcerou neapolského místokrále, který jih Itálie spravoval jménem císaře Karla V. Cosimo požádal o její ruku v roce 1539 a v létě se v katedrále ve Florencii konal sňatek. Bohaté španělské oblečení, které Eleonora má na pražském obraze, připomíná právě tyto události, protože v něm přijela z Neapole do Toskánska. Vévodkyně byla obdivována pro krásu a současníci ji nazývali „plodnou palmou“, protože porodila jedenáct nových Medicejů.

Pražský obraz Eleonory z Toleda se ve Frankfurtu nad Mohanem dostal do vybrané společnosti pokladů florentského umění druhé čtvrtiny 16. století. Pro Prahu je to obrovská propagace a potvrzení, že Národní galerie vlastní výjimečné poklady. Organizátory akce zaujala Eleonora dokonce natolik, že se stala i reklamním tahákem na jejich výstavu.

Spanning the period from the return of the Medici to Florence in 1512 and the initial artistic endeavours of the new generation around Pontormo and Rosso to the 1568 publication of Vasari’s Lives – artist biographies that still bear an influence today –, “Maniera” will be devoted to Florence as the first centre of European Mannerism.

More than 120 precious loans, including paintings as well as drawings and sculptures, will provide an unprecedented overview of a stylistically formative epoch for which the art historiographer Giorgio Vasari coined the colourful term “maniera”. Elegant, cultivated and artificial, but also capricious, extravagant and sometimes even bizarre: the art of Mannerism exhibits many facets. In 1967, the art historian John Shearman summed it up in a catchy formula – “the stylish style”. Its sophisticated grace and creative tenacity make the “maniera” one of the most fascinating phenomena in the art of Italy.

One of the most exquisite works in the Städel holdings – Bronzino’s famous Portrait of a Lady in Red (Francesca Salviati?) (ca. 1533) – formed the point of departure for this ambitious show. The project is being carried out with special support from the museums of Florence, above all the Uffizi, the Galleria dell’Accademia and the Galleria Palatina. Further key loans will come from such prominent museums as the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles, the National Gallery of Art in Washington, the Paris Louvre, the Prado and the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza in Madrid, the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart, the Szépművészeti Múzeum in Budapest and the Brera in Milan.

The art-historical development of the decades from 1512 to 1568 will be presented in close relation to Florentine city history and Medici rule – themes to be investigated in both the exhibition and the accompanying catalogue.
