Kraków: Piotr Łukasz Grotowski, Święci wojownicy w sztuce bizantyńskiej

Anotace

Badania nad ubiorem i uzbrojeniem bizantyńskim nie są dziedziną łatwą. Znikoma ilość zachowanych artefaktów a także niewiele źródeł powodował, że jeszcze do niedawna niewiele wiedzieliśmy na ten temat. Wśród niewielkiej grupy naukowców, którzy poświęcili się badaniom tego zagadnienia znajduje się Piotr Grotowski. Wynikiem jego wieloletniej pracy jest wydana ostatnio książka „Święci wojownicy w sztuce bizantyńskiej (843-1261)".

Autor zawarł w niej obszerną analizę ubioru i uzbrojenia używanego na terenach imperium bizantyńskiego od końca ikonoklazmu do odzyskania Konstantynopola. Punktem wyjścia do rozważań nad badanym tematem stały się dla autora wyobrażenia tytułowych świętych wojowników, których nie brakuje w sztuce bizantyńskiej tego okresu.

Grotowski, konfrontując ten materiał ikonograficzny z tekstami źródłowymi omawia bardzo szczegółowo uzbrojenie, wyposażenie i insygnia używane wówczas w armii bizantyńskiej, jak również stara się rozpoznać chronologię zmian jakim ono podlegało w czasie tych czterech wieków. Książka, co warto podkreślić, została wydana w dwóch językach, polska wersja ukazała się nakładem wydawnictwa WAM, natomiast angielską Brill.

Piotr Łukasz Grotowski, významný polský byzantolog, se v knize Święci wojownicy w sztuce bizantyńskiej detailně zabývá oblečením, insigniemi a vojenskou výstrojí v byzantské armádě v letech 843-1261. Ikonografické prameny jako ikony, fresky, reliéfy a rukopisy konfrontuje autor s četnými literárními texty a archivními prameny. Kniha vychází současně polsky a anglicky, anglickou verzi připravilo renomované nakladatelství Brill.
