Praha: Poklady českých a moravských hradů a zámků v Jízdárně Pražského hradu (Castles & Chateaux Rediscovered and Celebrated exhibition)

Do 15. března je Jízdárna Pražského hradu přímo napěchována uměleckými poklady z šedesáti českých, moravských a slezských hradů a zámků.

Výstava nazvaná Hrady a zámky objevované a opěvované nabízí unikáty, jako je relikviář svatého Maura z Bečova nad Teplou, zlatý karlštejnský poklad ze 14. století, rozměrnou renesanční mříž studny z Jindřichova Hradce, deskové malby Mistra Theodorika, gotická vrata z hradu Karlštejna nebo obrazy od malířů, jako byl Benátčan Paolo Veronese nebo Nizozemec Bartholomeus Spranger.

„Výstavu jsme koncipovali jako knihu poznání, která má svůj úvod, kapitoly a závěr,“ tvrdí kurátor Petr Pavelec, jeden z nejvýznamnějších českých odborníků na památkovou péči. „Je to jedinečný přehled nejcennějšího památkového bohatství našich zámků a hradů, který v takové koncentraci bude pro každého zájemce objevem a překvapením,“ dodal.

Všech šest set uměleckých, archeologických i historických památek je seřazeno chronologicky – od středověku přes renesanci a baroko až po dobu básníka Karla Hynka Máchy, prezidenta Masaryka nebo autora slavné knihy o českých hradech Augusta Sedláčka.

Výstava ohromí zlatnickými díly, vzácnými obrazy, luxusním nábytkem a barokními sochami, renesančními gobelíny, a dokonce i historickým autem Benz, které stálo před první světovou válkou v garáži v zámku na Orlíku.

Czech castles and chateaux, witnesses of national history, living centers of contemporary culture, highlights of the Czech landscape, guardians of grand treasures, and unique and irreplaceable heritage of the millennium-long Czech history can be found all at one time and in one place: at the Castles & Chateaux Rediscovered and Celebrated exhibition. This exquisite exhibition presents Czech, Moravian, and Silesian castles and chateaux, excellent artistic and craftsmen’s treasures from their collections, and the stories they tell.

This grandiose exhibition is conceived as a journey through the millennium-long history of the Czech lands. Their 10 sections are represented by 600 significant and beautiful exhibits related to castles and chateaux. Treasures kept within their walls can be better appreciated thanks to the music and poetry of leading artists of the past centuries, who sang to the glory and values of Czech history. The first section of the exhibition leads visitors to the dawn of history, preserved only in mythology and archaeological finds.

Its gem, and the most significant exhibit, is the manuscript of the Cosmas Chronical from the 13th century. It is the oldest preserved version of the text that features the Father Czech, a mythological character, the man who brought his people to the land that bears his name. The Middle Ages, the era of such castles as Přimda, Zvíkov, Pernštejn, Křivoklát, and Trosky, the fortresses and sites of the lords who ruled the land below, is especially represented by the Karlštejn Treasure, a set of first class accessories and lithurgical items from the castle Karlštejn, the icon of Czech statehood. The mighty Karlštejn gate, remembering the steps of the Emperor and King Charles IV, testifies of the everyday struggles of the period.

The Renaissance, when castles were altered into palatial chateaux, surrounded by gardens and parks, is symbolized by a hammer-wrought colorful lattice that decorated the well at the Chateau in Jindřichův Hradec. The baroque and classicist styles of the period when the lords collected artifacts and curiosities from both Europe and the entire known world at the time, and presaged the formation of later modern galleries, are presented by the greatest treasures and artifacts from the chateaux Kratochvíle, Bučovice, Český Krumlov, Lednice and Valtice.

In the second half of the 19th century the palatial complexes were altered into centers of great farms, and at the same time became family memorials and sought-after destinations for romantic artists as captured, for example, in the diary and notebook of the greatest romantic Czech poet, Karel Hynek Mácha. Both the twists of the 20th century, and the top-class quality of craftsmanship, as well as the medieval religiosity are evident from the Reliquary of St. Maurus, a precious goldsmiths’ treasure from the castle Bečov, found during renovation works in the 1980s.

The exhibition that shows the millennium-long history through the optics of the development of the aristocratic sites makes it possible to see in one place the 600 most significant and most beautiful items from the Czech Republic throughout the three winter months. Czech visitors may see for the first time items they learned about at elementary school, while foreigners have the chance to discover the best of the Czech Republic in one single afternoon.
